Lakefield College School Spring Concert 2024

This year’s Spring Concert was held on Monday, April 22 in the Bryan Jones Theatre. The five large ensembles—Concert Band, LAKeffect Jazz Ensemble, Rock Choir, String Ensemble, and Lorelei Consort—all presented polished and captivating works for their audience of peers, faculty, staff, and parents (who tuned in virtually via a Facebook live stream).

The evening began with a beautiful solo performance of Olivia Rodgrigo’s Logical by Ivy ’24. Four more solo/small group performances unfolded throughout the night, including Voila (Barbara Pravi) performed by Cindy ’25, Micaiah ’24, and Nina ’26. Cindy ’25 also took centre stage for a solo piano performance, an excerpt from Intermezzo. Another trio, Viviana ’25, Selina ’24, and Tom ’24 sang A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. A new group, Koopa Troopa, comprised of Cyrus ’24, AJ ’25, Eason ’25, Yoshi ’25, and Matthew ’25 performed a colourful rendition of Can’t Stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers; the audience couldn’t help but sing along and cheer them on loudly.

Of course, large group performances were interwoven throughout the night, including Concert Band, which covered Down by the Salley Gardens (Irish Folk Melody, Arr. Michael Sweeney) and Through the Eye of the Storm (Ryan Meeboer). Lorelei Consort performed True Colours (Billy Steinberg, Tom Kelly, Arr. Jesse Hampsch) and O Win (Robert Louis Stevenson and Michael John Trotta). String Ensemble stunned with a performance of Concerto Op. 3 No. 10 (Antonio Vivaldi) and the LAKeffect Jazz Ensemble had the audience grooving for three songs: Mercy Mercy Mercy (Joe Zawinul), Work Song (Nat Adderly), and Watermelon Man (Herbie Hancock).

Shifting the mood of the audience, the Rock Choir concluded the concert with two songs, I’ll Wait (The Strumbellas) and a singalong version of Don’t Look Back in Anger (Oasis).

Congratulations to all the students who performed. It was wonderful to hear the theatre filled with beautiful vocal and instrumental notes and it boosted our community’s spirits!
