February Break Fun

By Jen Horrigan

Family Day weekend proved to be an excellent way to break up the winter. Those who stayed in Ontario were treated to spring-like weather.  26 students joined staff members for a trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto to take in some of the most exciting attractions Ontario has to offer.

Great Wolf Lodge was "home" for the first two days and there was no shortage of activity at this bustling resort.  With one of Canada's largest indoor water parks, an arcade, bowling and so much more, students and staff alike enjoyed the rest, the fun and the great food at the lodge.  When a break from slipping and sliding in the water park was needed, the group looked no further than a short trip down the road to Niagara Falls.  On a picture-perfect day, complete with a full rainbow, the group visited the falls close up and enjoyed the many attractions of Clifton Hill.  Ripley's Believe It Or Not Odditorium offered a fun look at some of the worlds' whackiest sights, the Skywheel was gave incredible views of the falls and the city and the Great Canadian Midway was fun for all.  Students who were brave enough ventured into the Haunted Houses and others enjoyed a trip to the Hersey's Chocolate Factory store for a taste of delicious treats.

On Saturday, the group packed up and headed for more excitement in Toronto.  A stop at the Niagara Outlet Mall offered a chance to snatch up some designer fashions at great prices, before arriving in Toronto for dinner, movies and free time in the heart of Canada's largest city.

Sunday began leisurely, but the pace picked up significantly.  The group shopped, visited the Canadian National Auto Show, soared up the CN Tower, took in “Sharks After Dark” at Ripley's Aquarium and travelled the city on the TTC subway system.  After a busy day, sleep was quick to come for all.

Monday offered the opportunity for skating at Toronto's City Hall (Nathan Philips Square), a visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario, which some students determined to be the best the had ever been to and a visit to Chinatown for a shopping and dining experience that is truly unique and always rewarding.  A trip to Vaughn Mills Outlets for shopping and dinner finished off the trip and the group returned to campus with rested but with great memories from a fun weekend.
