Dragon Boating

By Tim Rollwagen

On Saturday, June 10, an enthusiastic group of LCS staff and faculty hit the waters of Little Lake in Peterborough to compete in the annual Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival.

They were pumped for their first race, and with LCS Dragon Boat coaches Pam Birrell and Darren Mossman at the helm, they finished the first race with the fourth-best time overall. In the afternoon, their second race started strong, but midway down the course the boat slowed and the LCS team could not maintain the momentum as they did in the morning.

Overall, it was a fantastic day of paddling and they all worked together for a common goal - to fight against breast cancer. This year the LCS team raised $2,445 towards the breast assessment clinic and new mammography equipment at PRHC. This was Lakefield's third time entering into the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival and they look forward to racing again next year!
