1st Girls’ Field Hockey
Lakefield College School's 1st Girls Field Hockey Team travelled to the University of Toronto to participate in the AK Pro School Girls Festival. Despite having had only three practices before the festival, the girls pulled together as a team ending the day with a tie and two wins (out of four games). During our first game, Grade 12 student Anna Natsu scored her first-ever goal and lead LCS to a 1-0 victory. The second game was a 0-0 tie for Lakefield. In the third game, Clara Mindjimba scored a goal and helped prevent our opponents from a shut-out during the only loss of the day. LCS ended the day with a 2-0 win; both goals scored by Allie Avard (with two unofficial goals scored by Lizzy Hood). A special shout-out to the team's keeper, Sophie Peters, who, in her first game ever as a field hockey goalie, only let in 5 goals all day. Great job, girls!

1st Boys’ Soccer
The 1st Boys’ Soccer team began their season with two exhibition games on Wednesday. The boys won both games, defeating Country Day School 2-1, with goals scored by Pedro Zapata Milla and Eli Shannon. In their second game of the day, the boys took on Holy Trinity School, where Eli Shannon scored two goals, finishing the game with a final score of 2-0.

1st Cross Country
On Wednesday, the 1st Cross Country team travelled to Trinity College School for the Trinity Invitational Harrier meet. The runners from LCS put in a strong effort and experienced noble suffering (the essence of cross country running). As coach Rory Gilfillan said to Liam Rafferty earlier in the day, “I am not sure that it necessarily gets any better, in regards to how running cross country feels, but the pain becomes more manageable the more we train.”

Both coaches, Leisa Wierenga and Rory, were deeply impressed with the grit displayed on what was an exceedingly tough day. A special shout-out to Anna Harris, our top runner, earning 8th place - the best, in recent memory, the LCS team has achieved at this meet.

Thanks again to Captains, Joe Ribbins and Leanne Britton-Foster, for leading the way both on and off the course. Your positive energy and enthusiasm have quickly come to define this team. To all who ran on Wednesday, well done. It takes courage to get to the start and much more to finish.

I think Chloe Traviss put it best, "I wanted to lie down on the course and I wouldn't have cared. But I kept going". This is, essentially, what we do. We keep going. More training, races and above all, more fun to come. Stay tuned.
