Two sections of the Grade 11 Outdoor Education classes headed out on their fall overnight camping trip this past Monday. A tailwind blew us all the way to our campsite in the cedar glen on LCS’ Northcote Campus, where the group cooked up spectacular pizzas, pasta and wraps. After setting up their campsite and preparing dinner, the students played games and stared up into the silent night and observed the two stars bright enough to peek through the clouds. The evening concluded with special birthday celebrations and s’mores around the fire.
Many students were able to experience some kind of “first”:
First time paddling from the stern of a canoe in a strong wind!
First time being responsible for packing all camping gear!
First time waking up in 10-degree weather!
First time seeing a bald eagle!
And certainly, the first time getting to know each other so well.
Big congratulations and thank you to all the participants. The students displayed care for each other and for our forest while they were out there. Everyone returned home without leaving a trace, but we certainly brought some memories and a few extra muscles home with us.
