Visiting Dance Team

St. George’s College just finished their 2018 Dance Tour and Lakefield College School was thrilled to be one of the stops on their trip. Dance was introduced at St. George's in 2013 and has made excellent progress since then under the guidance of Cecilia Gil. The Dance Tour of 2018 is a way of recognising the excellent progress the subject has made. The Dance Tour was made up of 12 young women all in the final three grades of secondary school. The girls took dance classes in Toronto, at the Underground Dance Centre and the Millenium Centre. They made two school visits, one to us here at Lakefield College School and one to Havergal College in Toronto. The team also made time for a visit to Niagara Falls.

James Thomas of St. George’s College said, “It was a fantastic trip for everyone involved and we thank you for the part Lakefield played in making it such a success. The girls from St George's were overwhelmed with the strength of the dance department at Lakefield, the peace and beauty of the site and the friendly nature of the students. We took away lots of ideas as to how to improve our school!”

Several members of the LCS dance team trained, danced and learned from one another during the afternoon of St. George's visit. Cecilia Gil ran through a fun but vigorous warm up, followed by LCS’ Rachel Bemrose teaching a dance number to music from the broadway musical Chicago. Madison Sheward ’18, LCS’ Dance Captain, also led the class in a dance she choreographed herself for the 2018 dance showcase. Madison reflected, “Training with the dancers from Argentina was such a powerful example of how art can bring people together. We challenged each other to dance outside of our comfort zones and we had the opportunity to bond over our shared love of dance.”
